JAMES EMERY (American, 1819-1899) SHIPWRECK OFF LIGHTHOUSE. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows a wrecked single stack steamer off a rocky shoal. A white lighthouse with building sits atop rocky point of land. A small rowboat is seen coming on shore with two men. Signed lower left “Jas. Emery Bucksport, ME”. A beautiful sunset sky with light shining over the lighthouse with yellow to blue sky and pink clouds. Housed in a fine antique gesso decorated gilt frame. Family history indicates that this is the wreck of the “City of Richmond”. Emery was a Maine painter and this may depict a wreck off one of Maine’s lighthouses. SIZE: 26” x 48”.
