JAMES EDWARD BUTTERSWORTH (American, 1817-1894) “SCHOONER YACHT “WANDERER” OFF BELEM CASTLE-TAGUS RIVER”. Oil on board nautical scene shows a two-mast yacht in full sail with thirteen figures aboard sailing right to left. A large three-mast galleon is in full sail sailing towards viewer. A three-mast tall ship off right land flies American flag. Other boats are seen on horizon. A castle with flags is seen on left side. All under a pink and light blue sky. Signed lower right “J E Buttersworth”. Housed in a replacement gilt shell decorated molded wood frame with gold liner having an artist tag with title. SIZE: 8” x 13”. CONDITION: Very good, minor spot inpainting. 9-27908 (30,000-40,000)
