THOMAS HICKS (American, 1823-1890) “THE HOME STRETCH TROUT ALL SOLD”. Interesting oil on canvas scene shows man with white beard and tattered clothes walking with walking stick and basketry backpack. Crossed wood fence in background with trees. Painted title at bottom. Signed lower left “T. Hicks 1864”. Housed in a wonderful gold decorated frame with gilt matte having a dome window. Label on reverse of canvas “From John S. Willard New York”. STRETCHER SIZE: 20” x 13-1/2”. SIGHT SIZE: 16-1/2” x 10-1/2”. CONDITION: Six small breaks in canvas in sky.
