CARVED AND PAINTED EAGLE WITH FLAG PLAQUE ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE STAPF. George Stapf (Harrisburg & Lancaster, PA, 1862-1958). The rare carved plaque having a gilt spread wing eagle surmounted by an American Flag, holding a red, white and blue shield in its right talon. Stapf worked in Lancaster and Harrisburg and carved eagles for government buildings, including G.A.R Posts. The flag, having applied stars, the upper body facing left with open beak. A wonderful, patriotic plaque. 20th Century SIZE: Wingtip to wingtip is 30”; Flag is 32”. Total height is 19-1/2”. CONDITION: Restored, some small losses. Very good. 9-72565 (15,000-25,000)
