IMPORTANT TWO PART CURLY MAPLE HIGHBOY DESCENDED IN THE LEVI LINCOLN FAMILY. 18th century of Massachusetts origin. The top section having two side by side drawers over four graduated drawers. Curly maple cased drawers and corners. The top case has an attached bottom molding, brass period hardware. The bottom section having one drawer over three side by side drawers raised on high cabriole pad feet legs with a wonderful carved shaped apron. Nice curly maple case and drawers. PROVENANCE: This highboy belonged to Levi Lincoln, the father of Enoch Lincoln who is buried in Capitol Park in Augusta, Maine. Levi Lincoln (1749-1820) was father of Levi Lincoln Jr., and Enoch Lincoln and great-grand uncle of Fredrick Robie. Levi had various political positions including Governor of Massachusetts, State Court Judge, Delegate to the Continental Congress, and US Attorney General, among others, as well as being a Revolutionary War Minuteman. Enoch Lincoln (1788-1829) was Governor of Maine, US Representative from both Massachusetts and Maine and lived in Paris, Maine and died while in office as Governor of Maine. Levi Lincoln Jr. (1782-1868) was Governor of Massachusetts, Justice of the Massachusetts State Supreme Court, and Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives among other positions. Fredrick Robie (1822-1912) was Governor of Maine from 1883-1887. The above information and more biographical information is included with this lot.
