“71ST NEW YORK VOL. INFT.” PARADE FLAG. 23” by 15-3/4” printed cotton flag. 35 stars in canton consisting of 2 concentric rings of stars and stars in each corner. “71st New York Vol. Inft.” printed on a middle stripe. The battles of “Bull Run”, “Fredricksburg”, “Chancellorsville” and “Gettysburg” are scattered on other stripes. Military flags of this era are almost non-existant. Silk flags that saw much use did not hold up. Even flags in institutional collections are mostly in poor condition. CONDITION: Flag has good color, scattered mildew staining over 50% of flag, 3 holes being 1” x1”, 2” x 1” and 3” x 1-1/2”. 2 small holes in canton approximate the size of a star. 4-49186 (1,000-2,000)
