FOLK ART CARVED AND PAINTED WOOD ARTICULATING ORIOLE WHIRLIGIG BY RALPH BOUTILIER. Large carved wood oriole in colors of black, brown, yellow and orange has metal rod articulating carved and painted wood wings and a tail feather propeller made out of painted metal which when turned, moves the wings up and down. It comes on a custom cross base stand with the name of the artist. Ralph Boutilier is from Milton, Nova Scotia and did a number of these whirligigs in the last half of the 20th Century. REFERENCE: This whirligig appears in From the Heart: Folk Art in Canada, National Museum of Canada” by McCelland, page 63. SIZE: 18” h x 42” along wing span x 24” l.
