FINE GILT CARVED WOOD EAGLE PLAQUE BY JOHN HALEY BELLAMY. Eagle with nice feather details holds curving arrow in talons. Appears to be in mahogany. REFERENCE: Smith’s book on Bellamy eagles, illustrated on page 70. Also on page 9, Heritage of Wood Carving, Farnsworth Museum, Rockland, Maine 1975 exhibition catalog. item No 6 indicates that a “Partly carved mahogany eagle is probably the last eagle Bellamy worked on and never finished. It was located by Joseph Frost when removing Bellamy’s work benches from his wood carving shop”. Also it is pictured on page 17. PROVENANCE: Found on Nantucket Island. SIZE: 21” l.
