UNSIGNED (European, 19th Century) THE WELCOME REST. Large unframed oil on canvas scene shows a man seated on a wood crate with a dressed up monkey seated beside. The man is pouring wine into a goblet which the monkey holds. A dog with saddle lies nearby, a two-wheel cart and barn is the backdrop. PROVENANCE: From a Maryland Collection. SIZE: 25” x 31-1/4”. CONDITION: Craquelure, in need of significant restoration. The canvas is brittle and has mostly come off the stretcher and there are three tears and some chipping. 9-29618 (100-300)
