EARLY ROOKWOOD ART POTTERY COVERED JAR. The mark appears to be late 1880’s, the ground a red terracotta. The bottom also marked “400 R” which indicates the shape number and red clay. The butterfly style handles on a shaped bowl type base with flared shoulder and round top. Fitted with a mushroom shaped cover. REFERENCE: Illustrated opposite page 56 with different glaze and decoration in the Book of Rookwood Pottery by Peck. SIZE: 6” h x 6” at widest. Supported by four tapering legs joined by two cross stretchers. The underneath has a metal Dunbar label. The Tiffany tiles include one 4” sq; two 2” sq; three 1” sq all with nice mottled blue luster. Shaped tapering legs support a shaped shelf 7” down from the top. Metal Dunbar tag to base of table. PROVENANCE: From a Private Everett, Washington home bought directly from the company. SIZE: 23-3/4” h x 25” x 20-3/4”. CONDITION: Original finish showing discolored stains to top, tight separation at top to where center boards meet. OUTSTANDING WALNUT AND TIFFANY GLASS TILE TABLE LAMP BY DUNBAR. Rectangular column lamp has 128 blue iridescent Tiffany glass tiles which include twenty-four 1-1/4” sq tiles on each side and eight corner tiles at each corner. A stepped walnut base and rounded corner square top encase the glass tiles. A fine quality brass double fixture is present telescoping which holds a silk ivory shade which is original to the lamp. Our understanding is that when the lamp was purchased, they had several design shades to pick from. Unsigned. PROVENANCE: From a Private Everett, Washington home bought at the same time as the preceding two tables directly from the company. SIZE: Lamp without fixture is 13-1/2” h. Column is 5-1/4” sq. UNSIGNED (American?, 19th Century) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE MERCHANT SHIP CUMBERLAND. Watercolor portrait of the black hulled ship sailing right to left having three masts in full sail flying the U.S. flag, a red pennant flag “Cumberlad” and two other flags. The name “Cumberlad” emblazoned on the stern and bow with a gold figurehead of what appears to be a lion. Fifteen men aboard with a yellow and red launch with four men beside. A fortress on bluff of land flying the British flag is seen off port bow. The black bottom border with written script in white “Ship Cumberlan Capt. Rueben Merrill Coming into Malta Harbour 1856”. We believe this ship to be the Cumberland and has been mis-spelled on both the ship and the legend. The ship was built Portland, Maine in 1853-54 being 1066 tons and is known to have been commanded by Yarmouth, Maine Rueben Merrill. This painting has recently been discovered in a house in Maine and is in untouched Estate condition. Housed in its original mahogany veneered frame with gold liner. SIGHT SIZE: 21-1/4” x 30-3/4”. CONDITION: As found with heavy toning, four water stains to bottom. 1” x 1/4” hole in upper left sky. 9-29779 (1,000-3,000)

RARE TRAVELING DECANTER BOX WITH EIGHT GLASS DECANTERS. Painted green hinged top box has original lock with key, blue flower original wallpaper interior with red cloth trim. Side swing handles and metal bound edges. The interior fitted for six large decanters and six small decanters with a removable dovetailed tray which held two glasses and two stems with stopper. Five large decanters are present which are of clear glass, hand blown and have matching tulip etched decoration. Three small decanters are present in similar design and form. A note in interior indicates that this was the property of Captain Rubin Blanchard. SIZE: Bottles are approximately 8-1/2” h and 5-1/2” h. Box IS 10” h x 15” w x 10-1/2” d. INTERESTING SHEET METAL PEG LEG SEA CAPTAIN WEATHERVANE. Weathervane has a silhouette cutout showing a man with front peg leg and having a telescope up to eye. He wears a flattened black hat and the rest has been painted white. The family has always thought of this weathervane as “The Peter Stuyvesant” weathervane. It was found on a house in Massachusetts and brought to their house in Maine where it has been for many years in Waterville, Maine. Stuyvesant was the Director General of New Netherlands which was later to become New York City. He became known as “Peg Leg Pete” and “Old Silver Nails” from the stick of wood studded with silver nails that was his artificial limb. Weathervane was mounted on a ridge mounted pole with directionals which is present and goes with the weathervane. SIZE: 28-1/2” h x 16-3/4” at widest. 31-3/4” l overall. Pole is 87” h. CONDITION: The later paint has flaked and rust is showing through. The top old clamp by telescope is deteriorated but still sound. 9-28830 (800-1,200)

ANTIQUE INLAID MAHOGANY GRANDFATHER CLOCK. Unmarked dial in original paint has bird and urn painting at top and flowers on the corners. Brass works with two keyholes and calendar indication. The hood having a string inlay, three brass ball and spire finials, partially fluted tapered columns with brass ends. The case having quartered fluted columns with brass ends, inlaid birdseye maple panels and a molded edge door having a string inlay surrounded grain mahogany panel. BERNARD LANGLAIS (American, 1923-1977) CARVED AND PAINTED WHALE PLAQUE. The cutout whale formed from a single wood plank uses the checked crack at one end as the mouth and a knot as the eye. The curving V-form tail cutout at end. Multiple paint layers indicate gray and white and two screw holes at center were used as mounting. PROVENANCE: This piece was given to our consignor by Bernice Abbott (famous Maine photographer) who purchased it directly from Bernard Langlais. The whale was affixed to Abbotts’ garden shed until it was removed by our consignors who worked for Bernice Abbott. She was known to have several pieces of wood sculptures adorning her garden area.
