RARE IVES WOOD CHOPPER. One of 3 known to exist, this exceedingly rare and seldom found toy is fresh to the market after many years in the private collection of David Bartels. The cast lead head within a fixed stamped brass hat is attached to a wooden torso with lead arms and axe. When the mechanism is wound this gentleman portrays the life-like activity of chopping a wooden log. His comical face probably at one time held a cigar protruding from the corner of his mouth, the gentleman retains his original clothing; however there is some distress particularly in the neck area. SIZE: 7 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ x approximately 8″h. CONDITION: Overall, intact and all original, mechanism and actions of figure needs some attention, some paint loss to back of man’s head. 1-6151 JL (4,000-6,000)
