INTERESTING SCRIMSHAW DECORATED COCONUT SHELL AND NARWHALE TUSK CHALICE. The Narwhale tusk 3” section used as chalice stem. An inverted coconut shell with ivory weight, which is pinned through the coconut shell, acts as base. Coconut shell cup for top is fastened with ivory pin. The top shell decorated with a large spread-wing eagle with shield; four oval portraits of men in oval frames, each identified as follows; “French”, “Willis”, “Brown”, and “Chadwick”. There is a curtain swag top border and latchhook bottom border. The bottom shell says “Our Union and Victory in 1862”. The border decorated with leaves and stars and the bottom border of thistle with leaves. An outstanding example of sailor art. SIZE: 9-1/2” high, 4 wide.
