NAVAL GROUPING. Naval grouping consists of chapeux-de-gras and two pairs of epaulets and Navy officer’s belt, all cased in tin box accompanied by funeral receipt of John Doherty, who died in 1880. Chapeux-de-gras is silk lined and has Norfork, VA label. One pair epaulets are for Captain. Epaulets are marked “MADE IN FRANCE” and probably date about 1900. Anchor and insignia for epaulets are loose. Second pair of epaulets lacks insignia and also marked “MADE IN FRANCE”. Belt is complete with false two-piece U.S. Navy officer’s buckle with sword hangers. Buckle marked “MADE IN ENGLAND”. CONDITION: Belt is fine, maintaining bright 100% gilt on buckle, epaulets are both very good, chapeaux-de-gras is very good. 4-49035 JS68 (350-450)
