PHILADELPHIA MAHOGANY FITTED LAP DESK. The desk retains its original label from “N. Starkey”, “Manufacturer of portable desks, dressing cases, medicine chests, and ladies work boxes Philadelphia”. The hinged slant lid opens to reveal a blue velvet writing surface with compartments below. A pen tray and inkwell are in a fitted compartment. The corners have brass support bands and there are two brass recessed handles. The brass top plate inscribed “R. Ashbridge”. PROVENANCE: From a New Hampshire home. SIZE: 6-1/2” h x 18”w x 10-1/2”d. CONDITION: Loss to some finish, generally very good. 9-72771 (300-500)
