AMERICAN CIVIL WAR U.S. CAVALRY SHORT UNIFORM JACKET. A very nice American Civil War enlisted man’s uniform jacket. Regulation, U.S. Clothing Depot manufactured with 12 buttons single breasted, two on each cuff, two on each side of the standing collar. Front, collar and cuffs decorated in worsted wool yellow tape. Tape extends from two “pillows” at the rear waist to the back of each shoulder. Lined in a denim colored coarse woven wool, pocket in the left interior breast. Sleeve lining is an unbleached linen. The right sleeve, near the shoulder, bears a black stamped inspector’s marking in an oval “__ H. Shafer/U.S./Inspector”, the size is small. CONDITION: Excellent. This jacket is, most likely, surplus showing virtually no signs of active use or wear. A few of the button holes are slightly frayed and a seam or two becoming fragile. Otherwise, colors are bright and strong. A very nice example. 4-49132 CW (2,500-3,000)
