IMPORTANT AMERICAN CIVIL WAR POLITICAL CAMPAIGN BANNER- LINCOLN/JOHNSON CAMPAIGN 1864. This great and colorful campaign banner for the Lincoln-Johnson presidential campaign of 1864 measures 18’ in length with a 32” hoist tapering slightly across its length to a 16” fly end. It is made of wool bunting with a white fly measuring 17” having two red borders each 6” both slightly tapering near the terminus. Across the center are large 13” high letters of medium blue polished cotton “LINCOLN & JOHNSON” The “S” in Johnson is applied backwards. The entire banner is hand sewn and the letters are only visible from one side. The hoist has a small cotton reinforcement with two hand sewn grommets. A marvelous, bright and important 1864 presidential campaign banner of grand proportions. CONDITION: Very good. All colors are bright, the white faded and darkened slightly indicative of its age. There are numerous small holes and minor fraying, however, these are distributed over a very wide area and only contribute to its antiquity. 4-49177 CW (4,000-8,000)
