CONFEDERATE FIRST NATIONAL FLAG. About 45-1/2” wide and 25” high, the bars and canton of flag are constructed of wool bunting with 11 cotton stars applied to each side of the canton. The hoist is 1-1/2” cotton canvas with three buttonhole-sewn eyelets for attachment. This flag is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Smithsonian textile expert Grace Cooper dated 1972, and a letter from noted historian and flag expert Howard Madaus dated 2003. CONDITION: Fine, with little or no wear to eyelets or fly. There is scattered insect damage, and a few larger losses, mostly in the canton.
