PERCY A. SANBORN (American, 1849-1929) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE CHARLOTTE W. WHITE. Outstanding oil on canvas ship painting showing a three-mast black hull schooner in full sail sailing left to right. On deck are seen ten sailor’s including man at helm and man with telescope. The ship flies identification flag and U.S. flag off stern. Fine detail to ships rigging including woman figurehead, anchor and name to bow and stern. Legend at bottom “Ship Charlotte W. White; B F. Pendleton, Master. Built at Belfast, ME 1858”. Off the stern in the background is a large white lighthouse with connected buildings on top of a bluff. Off the port bow is a ship with 33 on the sails. Several large sailing vessels are seen and steamship in background. Seagulls fly over a greenish white tipped ocean. Blue sky with white clouds. Signed lower right “Percy Sanborn”. Housed in its original gilt molded wood frame. SIZE: 20” x 34”. CONDITION: Totally original, untouched. Very good. 9-94825 (15,000-25,000)
