FABULOUS UNFRAMED SCHOOLGIRL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER. It appears that this was never framed, always rolled up in a drawer. Colors are vivid and bold. Sampler has seven alpha numeric rows in colorful stitches, a four line verse and a flower bordering the following “Miranda Spofford Born May 11, 1808 Aged 10”. Sampler is bordered on three sides with a chain-like border. The bottom is two-color grass with large willow tree and another tree and large flower. A central basket of flowers, a red flowering bush and a large pink flower. The top is a vine of colorful flowers. PROVENANCE: From a fine Bangor, Maine estate. SIZE: 20” x 14-1/4”.
