FINE MAHOGANY SHAPED TOP SHERATON CARD TABLE. Unusual deep curving side top with elliptical cut front. Each leaf in single board mahogany. The conforming skirt in mahogany veneers with bottom edge in darker band. The four reeded tapered round legs ending in a turned and tapered foot terminating with original capped caster feet. The back skirt board and leaf support are in curly maple. The family had two sides, one related to the Hooker family of Springfield, Massachusetts; the other with a Boston, Massachusetts background. Circa 1800-1810. FAMILY PROVENANCE: Sally Walley in 1794 married John Phillips, first mayor of Boston. She was from New York, to her daughter Sarah Hurd Phillips, Mrs. Frank Jenks after his death, Mrs. Alonzo Gray. From her daughter Mary Elwell Jenks, Mrs. Richard S. Storrs III. Then to daughter Harriet Moore Storrs, Mrs. Lewis Packard to their daughter Mary Storrs Packard to daughter-in-law (our consignor). SIZE: 30” h x top size 36” w x 17-1/4” d. CONDITION: Old fine crackled surface, very early repair to back edge of top. Very good. 9-27585 (7,000-10,000)
