FINE PAINT DECORATED DOCUMENT BOX. Early 19th Century lift lid box has what appears to be a second paint decoration done in 1828. The original blue is underneath and can be seen on the lid. The present decoration has diamonds and stepped square designs on the cover. The front has a wonderful scroll leaf decoration with fans at corners in mustard over a green paint. Flanking the escutcheon is “H H” with “1828” underneath. Original wire hinges and nailed construction. SIZE: 7-3/4” h x top size 16” x 9”. CONDITION: Very good with a nice crackled finish.
