ASSEMBLED WHEEL LOCK RIFLE. Cal .50. 25-1/2” swamped oct bbl. This assembled rifle appears to be the work of Johan Spitzer, Germany late 19th Century. The basic lock and bbl are original period pieces with additions made as needed. The stock, inlays, triggers and trigger guard are all Spitzer work. The touch marks on the rear of bbl originally had gold in them. The one on the left side appears to have the letters “CR” but the one on the right have a backwards D and a K. There is also a cryptic marking on top of bbl. Bbl has been bushed to line up the touch hole with the pan. The pan cover, wheel cover, cock-cock spring bridle, pan cover release and cock are replacements. NSN. CONDITION: All metal has been cleaned to bright. Wood is very good. About 20% of the inlaid ivory lines are missing. There is some shrinkage and breaking around the inlays of animals. There is no spanner. 4-50029 X21 (3,750-4,250)
