WILLIAM TORGERSON (American, 1833-1890) THE ONCOMING SHIP. Oil on canvas seascape shows an oncoming three-mast ship in half sail with figures aboard and a two-mast sailboat off the the side. Painting is signed bottom right but chipping obscures most of the name. Housed in its original gesso decorated frame with some losses. Back of canvas is stamped Painted by “W.M. Torgerson, Chicago”. SIZE: 14″ x 12″. CONDITION: Some chipping to bottom edge, very dirty, tiny puncture on horizon. Otherwise good. 9-91032 (400-600)
