LOT OF ITEMS RELATED TO SITTING BULL. Lot includes: Carved diamond willow cane carved “P. B. from Sitting Bull”. SIZE: 37” l. CONDITION: Very good. Four hand written pages of a long letter on Wickham Mercantile Company letterhead. P.B. Wickham, Secretary and Treasurer. This company were Indian traders located in Ft. Yates, North Dakota and this is the P.B. that is carved on the cane. Note with the following writing comes with lot. Parker Burroughs Wickham was the Indian agent for the U. S. Department of Indian Affairs for approximately 30 years. Cane given to him by Chief Sitting Bull-They were friends and associates. P.B. took Sitting Bull and a number of his Chiefs to the World’s Fair where they gave demonstrations of bareback riding, roping and other skills. In memory of the trip, Sitting Bull gave P.B. the cane and other artifacts. Included is also a number of photographs including P.B., a postcard of Sitting Bull, a photograph by F. B. Fiske titled “Sioux Indians Dancing July 4th 08”. Eleven cyanotypes involving the Wickham’s and their trading store. An interesting lot based on family lore.
