CONFEDERATE SILK PRESENTATION FLAG WITH TREMENDOUS PROVENANCE. Large silk presentation flag made by the ladies of Augusta, Georgia, and presented by them to the Washington Light Artillery. According to noted historian Howard Madaus, the reverse colors may be indicative of this battery’s association with Polk’s Corps, which flew flags with a blue field. Accompanied by a copy of a notarized letter from Effie Neibling dated 1932 stating that the unit presented the flag to her father 2nd Lt. John Neibling after the surrender at Appomattox.
