FUR TRADERS SHORT SWORD. 21-3/4” triple fuller blade with heavy cast lion’s head pommel and lion’s paw crossguard. The grip is covered with leather and wrapped with twisted copper wire. The blade is similar in shape to the French 1825 artillery or American 1833 artillery swords but lighter in weight. This sword came from the Museum of the Fur Trade when they sold some of the items purchased by its founder after his death. He purchased it in Canada from a family from Winnipeg who claimed it had belonged to an ancestor in the Red River Settlement. CONDITION: Gray patina with light pitting. Crossguard is bent slight on one side. Most of the finish has worn off the leather on the grip and it is worn through in a couple of places but still solid. An attractive display piece. 4-50132 FS169 (1,000-1,500)
