FREDERICK JUDD WAUGH (American, 1861-1940) SWISS ALPINE LANDSCAPE. Magnificent oil on canvas scene shows a rock strewn stream bed with working mill having sluice and waterwheel. House beyond on small clearing surrounded by tall evergreens. The backdrop is large peaked mountains with snow covering and glacier. A waterfall cascades off right mountain and colorful red flowers are in foreground and dot the landscape. Signed in right corner rock with artist monogram “FJWaugh” and dated “1887”. Housed in a fantastic multi-tiered gesso decorated frame with fancy gold liner. Partial Philadelphia, PA gallery label on reverse. PROVENANCE: Collection of Mrs. George T. Francis, Philadelphia, PA.
