CLASSICAL PICTURE MIRROR WITH REVERSE PICTURE SIGNED “A. DOOLITTLE”. Attributed to Amos Doolittle (1734-1832). This mirror would fall into the last part of his life. The classical gilt rectangular mirror has two parts. The top a rectangular reverse painted scene of red coat Minuteman with backdrop of town and soldiers in landscape. A banner in blue and underneath “A. Doolittle. N. H. 1788”. Below this is a rectangular mirror plate. The frame with large half columns with ring turnings and applied gesso leaves. The corner blocks have leaf motif. The central crest with a large leaf. Stepped overhanging cornice. SIZE: 44-1/2” h x 25-3/4” w. CONDITION: 20% of picture remains the rest has flaked off. There is a small corner missing and the mirror has a corner crack. Otherwise good. 9-25711 (500-800)
