INCREDIBLE J & E STEVENS FUNNY CLOWN (A.K.A. CLOWN ON GLOBE) MECHANICAL BANK. A dazzling example with one of the strongest facial paintings intact that I have ever seen on this bank. The blue ball with gold highlighting is similarly dazzling, and the mocha colored base is just plain stunning. Rarely does one find this bank with such vivacious coloring intact! As typical with Stevens’ red, it has a tendency to fade. The arms and chest have slightly faded, yet the rear of the bank is still brilliant. All in all, this is a wonderful example. PROVENANCE: From a Massachusetts estate. SIZE: 9″ h. CONDITION: Some minor chipping to clown’s legs and where legs meet globe, but still would consider this bank to be pristine to near mint. 1-6121 MC (10,000-20,000)
