ROUND POLYCHROME DECORATED FIGHTING SHIELD. 19th century, Southwest China, possibly of the Lo Lo tribal group. Circular wooden shield hide covered, with lacquered decoration of a sun burst pattern in mustard yellow, red and black. Having the original, hide, knotted holding strap. SIZE: 26″ dia. PROVENANCE: Private Collection, New York City. CONDITION: Wood frame dry, leather covering mostly intact but with old deterioration. Stitching original, good overall. 9-25813 (1,000-1,500)
