ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE WINCHESTER II WITH WINCHESTER BOWL. Fine oil on board portrait of the motor yacht Winchester. Boat travels right to left flying American flag off stern, red and white pennant “R” off central mast and blue with red cross and white star flag at bow (New York Yacht Club). Two men at wheel, white hulled boat with three lifeboats and open deck with long white awning. Two stacks at midship. Seagulls are seen off stern. Signed bottom right “Antontio Jacobsen 1910”. There were four yachts named “Winchester” made between 1907 and 1915. Named after Peter Winchester Rouss and the name of the Virginia city from which he came. Housed in an oak molded wood frame with gold liner. Accompanying the painting is a blue rimmed soup bowl with “Winchester” emblazoned on the ivory edge. The bowl is made by John Maddox & Sons of England. SIZE: CONDITION: 22” x 35-3/4”. CONDITION: Some inpainting, mostly in sky. Very good. 9-96699 (12,000-16,000)
