GROUP OF FIVE SOAPSTONE CARVINGS. Late 19th, early 20th century, China. Two carved with squirrels and grapes, one with landscape carving, fourth depicting immortals in a bamboo grove examining a scroll, fifth depicting immortal Liu Hai. Each mounted to variegated pierce carved soapstone base. SIZE: 5″ to 8″ h. CONDITION: Second with minor damage to grape cluster. Landscape with slight damage upper right peak facing. Fifth with shallow chip proper right side of foliage. Otherwise all very good. 7-72986 (300-500)
