GEORGE INNESS SR. (American, 1825-1894) THE DROVER. Fine oil on canvas scene shows a panoramic view of a valley with farm and mountains in the background. The foreground has a man with two work horses driving a sled with a large log with red canvas atop. Two cows are seen on the edge of water and the house is seen in the background with smoke rising from the chimney. An arch stone bridge is seen over a small river. Signed lower left “G Inness”. Housed in an antique deep molded wood frame. PROVENANCE: Albert Margolies (Chairman Sordone Art Gallery of Wilkesbarre, Pa., 1950’s); Bernice Dinner (his daughter); Frank Messina to present consignor. SIZE: 12” x 20”.
