GEORGE HORNE RUSSELL (Canadian, 1861-1933) PORTRAIT OF MRS. HORNE RUSSELL (ELIZABETH MORRISON RUSSELL). Large oil on canvas portrait shows elegant lady wearing a formal elegant black dress and long strand of pearls. Black sable/mink stole over shoulders. She sits with hands on lap. Dark and light green with blue highlighted background. Signed upper left “G. Horne Russell” and lower left “G. Horne Russell”. Original label affixed to frame from the 49th Spring Exhibition 1932 from the Art Association of Montreal. Outstanding carved wood period gilt frame, which probably was made by the artist who is known for his framing. PROVENANCE: Also exhibited May 1983 at Ross Memorial Museum as #5 portrait. This painting descends directly in the family of the artist. SIZE: 40” x 30”. CONDITION: Near excellent, some craquelure. Framed behind glass. 9-94366 (3,500-5,500)
