GIFFORD BEAL (American, 1879-1956) SAILBOAT SKETCH. Oil and tempera on masonite sketch of sailboats on a blue ocean with blue and white cloud sky. Inscribed in the foreground white paint in pencil “Painted by Gifford Beal to show his tempera method”. Back has a label “1st Coated with oil paint then tempera surface”. There is writing on the back of the masonite and “Reynolds Beal” stamp on back. Housed in a modern gilt decorated frame with white linen liner and gold inner liner. SIZE: 11-3/4” x 16”.
