IDENTIFIED COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER- JOHN SCHOUSLER, COMPANY G, 1st MARYLAND CAVALRY. The identification for this Colt revolver comes for the Descriptive Roll Book of Company G, 1st Maryland Cavalry. A photo static copy of this roll book accompanies the revolver which clearly list this revolver SN 63045 as assigned to “Schousler”, Company C. Standard .44 cal Colt Model 1860 Army revolver-6-shot rebated cylinder, iron frame, brass trigger guard and walnut grip. All serial numbers match on metal parts. A very hard fought Union cavalry unit that spent most of its service with the Army of the Potomac in the Eastern Theater. Their battle service includes; Ball’s Bluff, Va, advance on Winchester, pursuit of Jackson up the Valley, Harper’s Ferry, Culpeper, Battle of Cedar Creek, Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville Campaign, Brandy Station, Mine Run, Siege of Petersburg, Fair, Appomattox and the Surrender of Lee and his army. Mustered out August 8, 1865. Regiment lost during service 3 Officers and 65 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 3 Officers and 130 Enlisted men by disease. Total 201. CONDITION: Very good. This revolver is a very nice example-used but not abused. It does not appear to have ever been harshly cleaned, now maintaining a pleasant medium gray appearance. All markings are sharp and the cylinder retains about 60% of the scene. Mechanically fine, the grips are worn but appear original to the revolver. 4-49689 CW (1,500-2,500)
