WHITE MOUNTAIN SCHOOL (American, 19th Century) TRANQUIL AUTUMN. Oil on canvas scene shows man and woman seated next to bend in river with grass and sandy bank. Bright colored trees line banks under a blue and white cloud sky. Housed in a fine ornate gesso decorated frame with inner liner. Frame is marked “WB Mullen Philadelphia, Penna.”. Also the canvas has a label from the same shop. Possibly the work of Benjamin Champney. SIZE: 12” x 20”. CONDITION: Very good. Fine craquelure. 9-28974 (1,000-1,500)
