J & E STEVENS “FOOTBALL” (A.K.A. CALAMITY) MECHANICAL BANK. CALAMITY) MECHANICAL BANK. A real delight for even the most discerning collector who demands the finest in condition. A most appealing bank for all bank collectors as well as sports aficionados. This has it all: rarity, condition, action, appeal, and the intricacy of the castings. When the coin is set in place, the lever is depressed, the fullback lunges forward as the right and left tackle advance in a circular motion, stopping his advance. This bank is most susceptible to damage not only to the figures being broken off, but also to damage to the gears on the underside but this extraordinary example is devoid of any of these frequent problems. Once again, J & E Stevens’ attention to detailing, paint and intricacy of casting is exhibited with this bank! Extremely rare and difficult to find, especially one such as this without any flaws and with such great paint. This bank would make even the most fastidious collector very happy. PROVENANCE: Ex-Norman Perry Collection. SIZE: Base measures 7 1/2″ l. CONDITION: Pristine to near mint, trap included, but not pictured. 1-6119 MC (30,000-50,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2006 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
