MAGNIFICENT J & E STEVENS CHIEF BIG MOON BANK WITH RED BASE. Perhaps the finest example of this bank known to exist. Totally untouched, uncleaned, and yet the colors of this bank are truly astonishing. From the pond, to the copper highlighting, right down to the sharpness and brilliance of the blue stream and flowers, this bank is perhaps the culmination of every collector’s desire and dreams. This bank was initially found in its original box, but along the way the two got separated. It’s obvious the bank has not seen sunlight in the last 100+ years because of the brilliance of the red base and silver highlighting. In this cataloguer’s mind, this is my number one pick. It would be hard to place a monetary value on this bank because of the scarcity of its condition. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lloyd Ralston, private collection. SIZE: Base measures 10″ l. CONDITION: Near mint+, some wear on frog’s chin where it scrapes the pond and fish. There is a small casting crack in bank from where it was originally screwed together as shown in photo.
