CURRIER & IVES (Publishers, American 19th Century) “AMERICAN FRONTIER LIFE” (ON THE WAR-PATH). Large folio colored lithograph after a painting by A.F. Tait and dated 1863. Scene shows trapper with rifle and horse peering over rocks at Indian campfire. No. 159 in the “Illustrated Checklist of Currier & Ives Print by Conningham”. Housed in a replaced gold and silver molded wood frame with white matte. Old label from “The Old Print Mart, New York City”. PRINT SIZE examined out of frame: 23-1/2” h x 31-3/4” w. SIGHT SIZE within matte: 21-1/2” x 29-1/2”. CONDITION: Some tear restoration to margins. Restored tears can be seen at midpoint on each side and a large “U” shaped tear at top center. Also, one at bottom right. Otherwise, good. 4-48950 (1,500-2,500)
