PAIR OF ELM YOKEBACK ARMCHAIRS (GUANMAO YE). 19th century, China. Each arched crestrail with sloping back rest continuing to projecting ends supported on gently curving stiles centering the conforming undulating splat carved with a central panel of a pavilion. Bottom panel carved with molded arabesque. Outscrolled arms joined to cylindrical central supports. Front supports of undulating form centering the rectangular seat fitted with a molded panel. Raised on square legs joined by rectangular double box stretchers. Front legs set with molded undulating shaped apron carved with scrolling leaf tips. Front legs joined with rectangular foot rest. SIZE: 46″ h of back x 26-3/4″ w overall, 21″ h of seat. CONDITION: Structurally good. Retaining traces or original lacquer and staining. With old restorations. Surfaces now with shrinkage.
