MARTIALLY MARKED COLT 3RD MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER WITH MATCHING SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 44 Perc. Usual configuration with 7-1/2” oct to round bbl, half-moon German silver front sight, two-leaf rear sight, and the 4-screw frame with flat head hammer screw. There is a tiny “U.S.” below Colt’s Patent and the various parts have small inspectors’ initials. It has a brass trigger guard and iron backstrap with 1-pc walnut grips with the outline a cartouche on each side. It is accompanied by an original 3rd type Dragoon stock with iron furniture and a lanyard ring in the lower tang, serial #’s 17039 and 17040 and has a visible cartouche on both sides. SN 17039. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and cylinder retain no original finish with bbl being a smooth silver-gray patina with scattered light surface pitting and a worn muzzle edge. The operating handle and rammer are silver colored, which the pivot retaining about 75% slightly faded case colors. The frame retains traces of case colors, with the balance a silver-gray patina. The cylinder is cleaned to bright with some moderate to deep pitting. Retains 40-50% Indian fight scene and all 6 of its safety pins are intact. The trigger guard is a light mustard patina and the backstrap cleaned to bright. Grips are very fine with the aforementioned visible cartouches and flat spots at the frame from the shoulder stock. Strong bright bore with scattered moderate pitting. The stock iron is overall a silver-gray patina with light pitting on the lower tang. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish with the cartouches still visible. 4-49492 (16,000-22,000)
