MARTIALLY MARKED COLT 3RD MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Perc. Usual configuration with 7-1/2” oct to round bbl, German silver front sight with brass trigger guard and backstrap containing 1-pc walnut grips with fine, legible cartouches on each side. There is a tiny “U.S.” below the Colt’s Patent on the frame and it has tiny inspector’s initials on the various parts. SN 13605. CONDITION: Very fine plus, all matching including the wedge. Bbl retains 60-70% original blue, mostly on the lug. There are strong traces of blue on the bottom of bbl but the top has been cleaned and is mostly gray with light pitting. The muzzle is worn at the top. However, on the lug the sides are bright. The operating handle and pivot retain most of their strong original case colors. The rammer has turned silver. The frame retains most of its original case colors, somewhat faded, but there. The hammer retains 85-90% case colors on the left side and back edge with the right side being mostly faded to silver. The trigger guard and backstrap are a mellow mustard yellow patina. Grips are crisp with minutely worn edges, and minor handling marks with a hairline on each side at the frame. The cartouches are legible with “JH” in an oval on the left grip and a “WAT” in a rectangle on the right grip. The grip retains most of its original oil finish. Brilliant shiny bore with 2 or 3 small spots of pitting. 4-49491 (20,000-30,000)
