HENDRIK-WILLEM MESDAG (Netherlands, 1831-1915) GATHERING SEAWEED. Oil on canvas scene shows a mother and daughter that have gathered seaweed approaching a small fishing boat that has landed on a beach. A single figure is in the back and one tends to the sail. Several sails are seen on horizon under a colorful sky and a point of land is seen on the left side. Signed lower left “H.W. Mesdag”. Housed in a large wide gilt modern French style frame. SIZE: 11-3/4″ x 18″. CONDITION: The original canvas has been cut and has an old canvas relining. The painting is dirty and needs restretching due to looseness on the stretcher. 9-90642 (3,000-5,000)
