FIVE PIECE JAPANESE STERLING SILVER TEA SET. Meiji Period, Japan. Consisting of 10″ h tall tea pot; 7-1/2″ h small tea pot; 3-3/4″ h creamer; 4-1/2″ h covered sugar together with a pair of tongs. Repousse decorated overall with crysanthemums. Each, except tongs, marked on base with symbol of turtle within a triangle and with calligraphic Japanese hallmark. Accompanied by a letter from F.S. Cobb to Mr. H.M. Bonney describing the tea set as having been produced for “one of our ministers or consuls to China” now being given as a gift. Letter dated November 9, 1937.
