MARTIALLY MARKED COLT 2ND MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Perc. Beautiful Dragoon with 7-1/2” oct to round bbl, German silver front sight with brass square-back trigger guard and backstrap and 1-pc walnut grips with fine strong cartouches. There is a small “U.S.” below “COLT’S PATENT” on the frame “JH” cartouche on the left side of the grip and “W.A.T.” on the right and tiny inspector’s initials on the various parts. SN 10071. CONDITION: Extremely fine, all matching including the wedge. Bbl retains about 85-90% strong bright original blue with scattered chemical or blood spotting on the left side mixed with light patina and fine pitting. The operating handle retains 60-70% strong bright colors, fading on the left side and on the round area. The rammer is a silver metal color. The frame retains 50-60% case colors, mostly on the left side with the right side having colors in the sheltered areas only, the balance turned silver and some chemical spotting on the left side with scattered light pitting. The cylinder retains about 80% thin original blue with one area of light pitting and about 95% of its crisp Indian fight scene. The 6 safety pins are nearly intact. The trigger guard and backstrap are a light mellow mustard color. The trigger retains about 90% niter blue and the screws retain most of their blue. Grips are crisp with good legible cartouches on both sides and retain most of their original finish. Brilliant shiny bore. A rare Colt in outstanding condition. 4-49489 (20,000-30,000)
