CASED COLT 1ST MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Perc. Great 1st model with 7-1/2” oct to round bbl, brass trigger guard and backstrap with 1-pc walnut grips. The left side of the frame has a tiny “U.S.” below “Colt’s Patent”. It is accompanied by a fine original walnut-compartmented case, lined with red velvet. It contains a Colt’s Patent copper and brass flask with double sided trophy of arms over crossed rifles and crossed revolvers with a ribbon bearing the inscription “Colt’s Patent”. It has triangle hangers and a 35-grain spring-loaded nozzle, with a copper filler cap marked “Colt’s Patent”. The case also contains a brass and iron two cavity mold for conical and round ball with “Colt’s Patent” marked sprue cutter. It has a sealed tin of Hick’s Caps and several conical and round lead bullets in another compartment. SN 3348. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching including the wedge. Overall, it retains a smooth silver-gray patina with scattered surface discoloration and retains strong blue around the wedge screw. The wedge, when exposed, retains strong bright niter blue. The frame and hammer have crisp edges with some evidence of old cleaning and a trace of silvered colors around the recoil shield. The cylinder is a silver-gray patina and retains 75-80% of the Ranger & Indian fight scene. The original safety pin is mostly intact. The grip frame and trigger guard retain traces of original silver plating, being overall a smooth, light mustard patina. Grips are outstanding, sharp and clean with only minor handling and use marks and retain 92-93% strong bright varnish. One or two screws are slightly battered. The bore is bright and shiny with one or two scattered spots of light pitting. The case has a couple of hairlines in the lid, otherwise is sound with the lining slightly faded with wear impressions from the revolver.
