TWO CHINESE EXPORT OVAL PLATTERS. Circa 1800, China. Each with orange border and floral and gilt decoration. Central rondel decorated with a sprig of fruit within a foliate wreath. NOTE: According to a label affixed to the back of the largest platter “The borders of these platters are similar to the border of Colonel Thayer’s American Eagle Bowl, Ca. 1810, and now on display in the John Quincy Adams State Drawing Room at the State Department, Washington. Vide: Page 36, Department of State Guidebook to the Diplomatic Reception Rooms, 1971. The same border is on a dinner plate in the Reeves Collection, Washington and Lee University.
