RARE, LARGE GORDON BENNET RACE CAR. Intrinsically, this is one of the greatest race car toys ever manufactured!! Not only does this toy have charm, proportions, and allure, the history alone makes it a great toy as well as a historical icon. Manufactured by Gunthermann in the early part of the 20th century, and finely lithographed in white with gold highlighting, and large front head lamps as well as two hunched over drivers in pursuit of the first place victory. Clockwork mechanism is intact and when the toy is wound the race car lunges forward by a chain drive mechanism attached to rear wheels. This activates the bellows within the engine compartment while alternating the front wheels’ direction left to right, avoiding those bumps and potholes in the road before it. A similar model sold in the November 2005 Julia auction for an astounding $48,300!! This toy, fresh to the market was consigned from a family who had it in their possession for over 38 years. SIZE: 12″ l. CONDITION: Overall very good to fine untouched, unclean condition. One repaired headlight. Lacking original drivers, but a replacement set from Tin Toy Works is included. 1-5997 JL (15,000-25,000)
