UNSIGNED (American) SOUTHERN FARMSTEAD. Unsigned primitive oil on canvas scene depicts a connected building farmstead being tended by a black family. Includes woman carrying chickens, man with wheelbarrow of sticks, boy pulling pig and other children and women. The buildings appear to be sided with rough slabs and each building has a chimney pipe. Rolling hills in background. Canvas stamp on back “Carpenter, Woodward & Morton, Boston”. SIZE: 9” x 20”. CONDITION: Surface grime, otherwise good. There is one small patch. Canvas appears to be old but paint surface is of undetermined age. Gesso damage to frame. 9-93827 (1,000-2,000)
